12 Month Project Finally Finished

Remember way back when, I told you about a Wendy Froud inspired doll I was making as a group challenge, ........no.......... well here's a reminder

Well she is finally finished. Steve had to work all weekend so I had two whole uninterrupted days to work on her. She will be dancing when I get her stand made, the one she is on is only temporary and doesn't support her too well, hopefully it won't take me another 12 months to get it done. It is so good to be able to finally spend some time back out in my work room, the weather has been glorious so everything dried nice and quick so I could get her finished ........ ummmmmmm what to make next :)

Arthur Rackham Inspirations

I have always admire the work of Arthur Rackham, my Mum bought me a lovely book for my birthday "Arthur Rackham, A life with Illustration". The witches sitting in a tree with their black cat has always been a favourite. Now I know about polymer and apoxy sculpt and all the other wonderful materials available, I am thinking of doing a piece based on this work, once I have completed all the other pieces I have going, and get some time off school to do it, in other words some time in the distant future.

Here are a couple of pictures showing these amazing little witches sitting in twisted trees with their very scary looking cats. One day I might just surprise myself and see this idea actually accomplished

 

Clay Beginnings

After attending a demonstration at my doll club on Polymer clay, I have become fascinated with this product, and bought myself some clay and books in my xmas goodie package. I then got myself a copy of Mareen Carlsons book Fairies, Gnomes & Trolls: Create a Fantasy World in Polymer Clay and just had to try a troll.  This was a huge learning experience for me and like most things, I couldn't stick to the directions in the book and he took off in a slightly different direction.  We were having lots of very wet weather at the time and I think this influenced me greatly in the end result.  He went through a hard time, getting a burnt belly and breaking his legs off more times than I like to remember, but I'm very happy with the way he turned out. The finishing touch will be some lovely fat raindrops sliding down his umbrella.  I was extremely proud and honoured when he was featured on the home page of my favourite yahoo group Beginners Polymer Clay Art Group
